Storymend is a narrative practice built on one premise, drawn from clinical work and editorial work alike: structural problems have structural solutions.
Monthly essays on narrative structure, memory, and why some stories heal the people telling them. Starting this fall.

A novel
Six women. Two family lines. One legacy of healing.
The cycle ends with them.
Expected July 2027
A multi-generational novel about family, faith, mental illness, and the quiet work of breaking generational cycles. Through the lives of six women whose stories intertwine across generations, Where the Water Stays Still explores what it takes to heal the wounds we inherit—and the courage to leave something better for those who come after us.
Where the Water Stays Still will mark the debut novel published by Storymend Creative Co.

Shatara Jewell is a psychiatric–mental health nurse practitioner, writer, mother, and founder of Storymend Creative Co. Her work explores the intersection of psychology and storytelling, drawing parallels between the way trauma shapes human lives and the way stories succeed or fall apart.
She became fascinated by narrative structure after noticing that the way a traumatic memory fragments often mirrors the way a manuscript unravels in its second act. One field calls it symptomatology. The other calls it an Act II problem.
That perspective became the foundation of Storymend, where she helps writers strengthen the emotional and structural architecture of their stories while developing original fiction that explores healing, faith, and generational trauma.
Storymend will launch in 2027 as an editorial practice helping novelists and memoirists strengthen the structure of their stories through in-depth narrative diagnostics. Alongside the practice, Storymend will produce a podcast and speak on the art of narrative repair.
Until then, the newsletter is where the conversation begins.
